It's Bootcamp Time!!

What is the first thing that comes into mind when you hear the word “Boot Camp?” You think of the military type of boot camp right? Well this week the 6th grade had to do a boot camp, but not any ordinary boot camp, we went to laptop boot camp! Laptop boot camp meant that in every class we would have to learn more and more about how to care for the laptops, how to use our laptops, how to organize and be productive. We also learned about digital citizenship and blogging. Using our brand new Macbook Airs we went to different classes and learned a lot of new stuff. Some of the things I learned was kind of a review. And I was kind of looking forward to having time to play around the laptops. Other than that this was a lot of fun.

Never have any type of liquid next to your laptop!
One of the classes I thought was a very informative was science class. In science class we learned many things about how to take care of your laptop. Some of those things we learned was how to properly hold your laptop in its case. We also learned about where we should use our laptops, and where not to use our laptops. Another thing we learned in science class, was how we should come to class prepared. When we get to bring out laptops home (which is in October) we always need to come to school prepared to learn, that means the teachers expect us to bring our laptops in the case (of course), our earbuds, and our laptop fully charged. The teachers also expect us to hold the laptop with a lot of care! They would always say that we should apply the golden rule when it comes to the macs and other laptops. I learned that I should always hold the laptop case with two hands, and while putting our laptops in our lockers before going to break and lunch, we should always put our laptops in between our legs while getting things from our lockers or when you are opening your locker. You need to do that just to make sure you don’t hit the person who has the locker under you. The most important thing I learned was where to use your laptops. I learned that the only places you should use your laptop is where there is teacher/adult supervision, that means you can use your laptops in the classroom or you can even use it in the library. Some of the places we should never use the laptops include the cafeteria mainly because the cafeteria has food and liquids there, and as some of you may know liquids, such as water are DEADLY to laptops. Another place that you should never bring/use your laptop is the hallways because thats the place where a lot of people can step on your laptop, another place where theres a chance that people will step on is PE and when you go out to play. The teacher also taught us that whenever we need to get up and walk to a different place, we should always close the laptop and zip it up in the case. That are some of the main things I learned about how to care about my laptop.

From now on, I know how the proper way to handle a laptop. This experience has taught me a lot because before I went to laptop boot camp I would sometimes leave my laptop open when I need to walk to another place… I know that’s a bad habit! But I have seriously learned a lot of things from this laptop boot camp! Most of the information is found on this site.
